Insulation Job Site Efficiency: Hose Reels Save Time and Money
Growing up in an insulator’s family, we never had one essential item – a hose reel. We spent a lot of time digging out hoses, fixing pinched hoses and replacing them every two years. These hoses were more duct tape than plastic by the time we got rid of them.
When you pack a truck or trailer without a hose reel, you typically lay the hoses on top of the machines and material. Inevitably, while driving to the jobsite, bales of cellulose or fiberglass will fall on the hoses. Many times, I remember digging the hoses out of a collapsed section of material when we arrived on the jobsite.
The reason we didn’t have hose reels is because my dad felt that they took up too much room. Honestly, until I started to run the crews, I agreed. I found that we spent way too much time digging the hoses out of the collapsed material. The constant repairs were not fun. One pinch can create a small hole in the hose, causing material to spurt in the houses we were insulating.
If you take the time to consider a narrow reel, such as a Cool Machine reel, you will find that it doesn’t take up more room than tossing in the hose. They keep your hoses from being crushed. It is much faster to unspool the hose because material has not collapsed on the hose. A set of hoses cost hundreds of dollars and are worth keeping safe and nice on a hose reel.
