Two Person Manual Wall Spray and Recycle: Yes! It Can be Done!
Caleb Nix of Springfield Insulation (Springfield, Missouri) recently purchased a CM2400 with a wall spray system. We visited with Caleb and Dave (his employee). The challenge of the day was to teach on wall spray cellulose with only two people, using the manual recycling approach. The day went very well. We do have a few customers who are two-men team that spray and recycle. Here is how they accomplished this.
Caleb laid out the wall spray hoses, nozzle and pump. Dave prepped the house by taping the outlets and making sure the perimeter was cleaned. He also prepared the CM2400.
Using a 25015 tip, we sprayed at about 250psi. The material sprayed very well. It stayed in the wall nicely with no major fallouts. This is an accomplishment. If the material gets too wet, it slumps out of the wall. It the material is too dry, it falls off the wall. This is how this team was successful:
- Start with an empty machine.
- Put one cellulose bag into the CM2400 and blow it out into a pile in the house. The material is wetted with the nozzle. This is the start of the recycle.
- Using a shovel, fill a garbage can and took it back to the machine.
- Add one half bag of cellulose to the recycled material.
- Make sure not to fill the machine more than half-filled so that you can control the wetness/dryness of the material.
- Dial the airlock back to 4” – 6” so that the material can tumble longer in the hopper. This also prevents a ton of material coming out of the hose.
- If, throughout the job, your material slumps or falls out, then run the machine until it is empty and start over again at Point 3.
At the end of this project, the cellulose was either slightly above or below 25% which is where the moisture content needs to be before covering with drywall.
The homeowner also wanted to control sound around the bathrooms and laundry room. Caleb stapled fabric against the wall. Then he sprayed cellulose on the other side of the wall. Cellulose can easily be sprayed into a one-sided netted wall.
We are thankful to Caleb for his purchase and the great time we had with training him and Dave!
