Insulation Jobsite Efficiency: Keeping Your Job Site Clean as You Work
While insulating, scraps, wrappings and material accumulate. Homeowners and builders want to see a tidy, well-maintained environment during the building process. We took the approach to “leave it cleaner than when we arrived.” It is very important to keep your customers happy. It also helps to speed up your work! Here are some tricks/tips to working efficiently, while maintaining a safe and clean building appearance.
The Importance of Maintaining a Tidy Work Environment
Safety: Keeping materials and scrap off the floors will help prevent accidents. Stairwells are especially problematic when insulating wrappings of batts are not picked up.
Fast Job: It is easier to work when your site is tidy. You don’t step over the trash and have to move it two, three or even four times while working.
Here is How We Kept Our Jobs Tidy
- Use the large wrappings like garbage bags throughout the house. We stapled the large fiberglass master pack bags inside closets and used them through out the house to toss unusable scraps and wrappings that were cut during installation
- Use drop cloths: When blowing insulation into an attic, you will typically carry hoses through the house to the attic access. Cover the floors and stairs. This will prevent the tracking of dirt/debris and also make it easier to gather insulation to minimize the necessity of vacuuming.
- Bring a Vacuum: Whether you have a large canister vacuum or a portable stick-style vacuum, keep them on-hand. Even the most meticulous jobs will need a touch-up. Have you ever lost grip of a hose in the attic? The panic and dread that happens in a newly built, painted and carpeted house when your hose falls into the closet or hallway is never pleasant. Having your own vacuum is a life-saver!
- Keep Your trailer/Truck floors Clean: You will drop insulation on the floor of your truck. Keep garbage bags ready and a broom. Loose fill insulation embeds in the treads of shoes. When you have to enter a house, you will track this in. Also, never shovel insulation into your machine. It will cause downtime when your machine locks up with garbage.
There are more things that can be mentioned, but this is a good start to keeping your job site clean and saving time while you work.
