Don’t Let Your Wall Spray and Internal Wetting System Water Pumps Freeze
As I write this post, it is beginning of the winter season in North America. During the winter months, we invariably have one or two contractors tell us that their water pumps are not working. The most common reason is that the pumps were left out in freezing temperatures.
Recognizing that your pump has damage from freezing: If you left your pump out in freezing weather, you most likely damaged your pump. The diaphragm will crack and the seals will also be damaged. The water will turn cloudy because it is mixing with the fluid. Another symptom is loss of pressure. You may not be able to dial the pressure up on your pump due to the damaged seals.
What can you do if you damaged your pump? Cool Machines offers rebuild kits for all of their pumps. Contact us if you need a seal kit.
How do you prevent freezing in your pumps? We delivered a full water spray setup to a company in Minnesota, in the middle of January. That evening, staying in a hotel, we brought the pump into the room with us. If you are traveling, you should do the same. Leaving the pump in your truck/trailer, in the winter, will cause your pump to fail.
Consider a Water Cabinet. If you are outfitting a truck or trailer, Cool Machines offers insulated water cabinets that are designed to hold up to 250 gallons of water, a water hose reel, pump and a ceramic heater. A drop cord can be plugged into your workshop and prevent the cabinet from freezing.
Don’t forget about your water pumps in the winter season. It doesn’t take much to damage the rubber seals and diaphragms. There is nothing worse than arriving to a site, setting up and realizing that your pump needs to be overhauled.
